Rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) in a gooseberry thicket. At Wehr Nature Center at Whitnall Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

I saw grosbeaks on the first day of my Great Lakes excursion, and this one on the last day, just hours before my flight home. They make nice bookends for a memorable trip, and a good way to end this very long series.

False rue anemone (Enemion biternatum), at Wehr Nature Center at Whitnall Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Update: I originally mis-captioned this as rue anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides), but had a change of heart. I should have counted the flowers’ naughty bits, as Linnaeus taught us.
