Female six-spotted fishing spider (Dolomedes triton), at Lotus Garden, Virginia Beach, Virginia. This cutie was huge. Her body length was about 1 inch long (2.5 cm), so with her legs extended she was over 3 inches across.
Etymology note: The generic epithet Dolmedes is probably derived from a Greek root meaning wily or contriving. The specific is after the Greek sea god Triton.
