Female six-spotted fishing spider (Dolomedes triton), at Lotus Garden, Virginia Beach, Virginia. This cutie was huge. Her body length was about 1 inch long (2.5 cm), so with her legs extended she was over 3 inches across.
Etymology note: The generic epithet Dolmedes is probably derived from a Greek root meaning wily or contriving. The specific is after the Greek sea god Triton.

Galls on bald cypress twigs (Taxodium distichum), at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
