Unidentified damselflies, at Wet Beaver Creek in Yavapai County, Arizona. These insects are in a pre-copulation embrace. The male (at left) is clasping the female’s thorax. The ritual it thought to give the prospective mates time to assess one another. There is some evidence that female damsels make mate selections based on males’ clasping skills.

Yesterday these sporangia were a lurid yellow color, and sticky to touch. Today they are dry and crunchy, like a malt candy coated with powdery spores. Help with identification will be sincerely appreciated and swiftly acknowledged.
