I found this package in my mail box this afternoon – a first class delivery from Cortez the Gnome. Cortez is an inhabitant of the Four Corners region of the United States, and his life and times are being documented in a children’s book by tumblr friends textless and inlandwest. 

I won’t display the contents of the box (for now), lest I spoil surprises Cortez intends for some other lucky recipients. Let me just say that when I opened the box the room filled with a fragrance redolent of the Southwest high country where Cortez lives, and I was momentarily transported.
