I took the Walk With Levi challenge today, opting for an urban hike around Tempe Town Lake. My hike covered 4.6 miles (7.4 km).

The lake was formed by impounding the Salt River.

This view looking southeast is adapted from Google Earth. It encompasses most of the Arizona State University campus, Sun Devil Stadium, Hayden Butte, and downtown Tempe. 

The lake is a haven for waterfowl. Today I saw coots and ruddy ducks, sixteen snowy egrets, more cormorants than I could count, and even an intrepid osprey, all within view of the modern lakefront office towers.  

I’m looking forward to the next walking challenge, Levi, and thinking about joining you for some push ups.
