Hieroglyphic Trail, No. 1.

All of the photos in this set were taken on the Hieroglyphic Trail in the Superstition Wilderness Area of Tonto National Forest, Pinal County, Arizona.

And no, there are no hieroglyphs along the trail, but there are many petroglyphs, pecked and scratched into the rocks by the Hohokam people who lived in central Arizona between 450 BC and 1450 AD. The petroglyphs are concentrated at trail’s end, on boulders adjacent to a series of stair-stepped ephemeral pools.
