MyCoy Tyner died today, age 81. This track exemplifies the mellower side of his timeless piano work. He was joined by Jimmy Garrison (bass) and Albert Heath (drums) on this 1963 recording.

Soave sia il vento,
Tranquilla sia l’onda,
Ed ogni elemento
Benigno risponda
Ai nostri/vostri desir.

Gentle be the breeze,
Calm be the waves,
And every element
Smile in favor
Of your wishes.

Georg Solti conducts the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in this 1995 recording. This lovely terzettino is sung by Renée Fleming (Fiordiligi), Anne Sofie von Otter (Dorabella), and Michele Pertusi (Don Alfonso).

Huge thanks to everyone who offered suggestions for a collaborative blues playlist to help see me through a difficult time.

It’s a testament to the great kindness of my community of carers and supporters on tumblr that so many of you made such terrific musical contributions or offered such thoughtful words of concern and encouragement. I am moved, and more grateful than I can say.

The collaborators are

In case you can’t access the playlist through tumblr, the list links to Spotify here. Runtime is 3 hours.
