Abdiel / Horatio Greenough / 1838.
At the Art Institute of Chicago. Abdiel is an angelic character in Milton’s Paradise Lost, who denounced Lucifer and his proposed rebellion against god. “So spake the Seraph Abdiel, faithful found / Among the faithless, faithful only he.” Greenough’s bust includes an ornate Greek warrior’s helmet, but I think it detracts and distracts from the beautiful face.
