Ferrymans’ Crossing, by Bruce Munro, 2015. At the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. Please click any photo in the set for enlargement.
This indoor installation comprises thousands of recycled CDs, recorded sounds of a flowing river, and an array of ceiling lights that flash the text of Hermann Hesse’s Siddhartha in Morse Code onto the floor below. It is a mesmerizing environment, with light reflected from the floor to the walls in constant play. The space is more thoroughly illuminated than my light painting photos suggest. SMoCA generously encourages visitors to this exhibit to take photos and experiment, so I did.
Bruce Monro’s works will be featured at other venues in the Phoenix region this year, including a large illuminated installation opening at the Desert Botanical Garden in November.
