Black Canyon Trail Flora: Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis).
Jojoba plants are dioecious. A male plant is shown here. The plants are perfectly adapted to retain moisture in the desert environment. Their leaves and stems are covered with a waxy coating (famously used as an ingredient in cosmetics), and their leaves are oriented upright, to present less surface area to the sun.
