Bird Behavior Note: I just found all three of the Carolina wren babies hunkered in one of the cardinals’ abandoned nests. They were all peeping piteously, begging for a parent to bring them some food. They are still clumsy fliers, but they scattered quickly enough when I approached the nest to see what the commotion was about.

This is the last bird photo I’ll post today, I promise.
The Carolina wrens (Thryothorus ludovicianus) were giving flying lessons to their little brood in the garden this afternoon. This bird has just fledged, and is still showing a bit of down, along with the stubby wings and mottled plumage of a newcomer. From beak to tail it is about 3 inches long (7.5 cm).
