A green line of cottonwood trees marks the course of the San Pedro River. The mountains to the left (in the far distance) are the Dragoons; the range at right are the Tombstone Hills.

Proximity to water changes everything here. Just a few yards from the river’s edge the trees give way to the bunch grasses and scrubby mesquite that stretch for miles.
