Past flowers.
Yesterday I returned to old photos of my kitchen garden back in Virginia. Today’s nostalgia is for flowers from the borders. All were taken over several growing seasons, in Portsmouth, Virginia.

An entomological love song.
And there’s a praying mantis
Prancing on your bathtub
And you swear it’s a priest
From a past life out to getcha
And I digress
‘Cause I must make you the perfect evening
I try my best
To put the priest inside a jam jar
Just once, through sheer dumb luck, you would think he could show real leadership.
Not Trump.

Treasures.

Vermilion flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus
♀). Though she’s not displaying much vermilion, this immature bird’s belly feathers and undertail coverts will take on brighter coloring with time.
