My neighbor gave me a jar of her homemade apricot conserve last week. I was finally able to buy flour at the supermarket to make her a reciprocal loaf of bread. This was made with the last of my commercially prepared yeast. Yeast seems to still be in short supply, so I’ll be growing my own starter, and baking sourdough loaves from now on.
This dough ball is at the soft-as-a-baby’s-bottom stage of kneading, which is one of the great joys of making bread by hand.

My kingdom for a dichotomous key! The best I can figure, this is a type of gilia in the phlox family—possibly star gilia (Gilia stellata). Those Carolina blue anthers should make this an easy ID, but I am stumped.
