Tropical house cricket (Gryllodes sigillatus), Glendale, Arizona.

These crickets probably originated in southwestern Asia, but are now distributed in tropical locations globally, including all of the states across the southern tier of the United States, and in my bedroom closet. This specimen is small, about 1 cm (0.4 inches), excluding antennae and cerci. You can hear a sample of the males’ calling song here.
